Police confirm the demolition of 68 residential units in Kampung Chubadak Tambahan, Sentul, proceeded without protest under a High Court order.
KUALA LUMPUR: A major demolition operation involving 68 residential units in Kampung Chubadak Tambahan, Sentul, was carried out smoothly today.
Sentul district police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the action proceeded without any protests or provocations from affected residents.
A total of 206 police officers and personnel were deployed to assist court authorities in executing the court order.
“This assignment is to ensure public safety and order are maintained throughout the implementation of this court order,” he told reporters at the operation site.
He said police strength was divided into six deployment zones covering the groups of houses designated for demolition.
Commenting on the eviction notice, Ahmad Sukarno said the court writ was served to residents on Dec 5.
The eviction notice, issued within 14 days of the writ, was delivered on Dec 26.
“Today, the demolition action against the premises involved will be carried out,” he said.
He noted most residents did not obstruct the operation, except for 18 residents in Zone 4 who had appointed lawyers for further action.
“This involves 18 residences, and matters related to further action will be decided by the court today,” he added.
The operation involved various agencies including Tenaga Nasional Berhad and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force.
The Malaysian Immigration Department also conducted an inspection two days prior.
Ahmad Sukarno expects the demolition to be completed by noon or early this evening.
He emphasised the implementation of the Kuala Lumpur High Court order is a law enforcement measure.
The action aims to curb illegal construction and occupation in the concerned area.
Media previously reported strict action against illegal structures and unlawful encroachment would be carried out via a vacant possession order.
