Shah Alam City Council introduces solar-powered IRIS CCTV system with AI capabilities to enhance public safety and sustainability.

SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam City Council has introduced an advanced closed-circuit television system called IRIS to strengthen urban safety and sustainability.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim stated this solar-powered technology will help transform Shah Alam into a safer and more efficient city.

He explained that IRIS enhances safety control across high-risk areas while supporting the council’s green city policy through renewable energy usage.

The system’s solar capability allows expanded surveillance in locations without electricity access.

Mohd Fauzi announced plans to deploy IRIS throughout the council’s administrative area by next year.

The council aims to integrate artificial intelligence into security and traffic management systems as part of its Smart City Shah Alam vision.

AI technology will help detect suspicious activities and manage traffic flow more efficiently without constant officer presence.

This AI-based system has been developed over four years and is currently undergoing testing for public safety monitoring.

The integrated surveillance technology improves response efficiency to incidents while reducing operational costs.

Mohd Fauzi highlighted that IRIS enables faster flood monitoring with immediate early warnings to residents and response teams.

He emphasized that the system accelerates detection processes and information dissemination to the public.

IRIS received the overall winner award in both Social Innovation and Best Innovation Project categories at the Selangor Public Service Innovation ceremony. – Bernama
