States in Peninsular Malaysia hit with transboundary haze from Sumatera, Indonesia

Mahadhir Monihuldin

PETALING JAYA: Several states in Peninsular Malaysia have been affected by cross-border haze, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) said.

Its director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said a report from Asean Specialized Meteorological Centre (ASMC) found that there are 79 hotspots in Sumatera leading to the transboundary haze in Peninsular carried by south-westerly winds.

“MET Malaysia added that they don’t forsee any rain or change of wind direction occurring in the next few days to reduce the haze in any way.

“The public is advised to refrain from any open burning activity as it will worsen the haze in the region and cause air pollution,“ he said in a statement.

The public is advised to get the latest and most authentic weather updates via MET Malaysia’s official website, MyCuaca mobile app and social media, or call 1-300-22-1638 for further inquiries.

Korea’s Jeunghun Wang made a statement return as he fired an eight-under-par 64 to seize the opening-day lead at the Moutai Singapore Open, marking the event’s comeback after a two-year absence. Wang, who last lifted a title almost eight years ago, said he’s eager to end his drought after a strong all-round display, especially with his “hot putting” and “solid ball-striking.” He leads by one shot ahead of Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Gunn Charoenkul, as well as Kieran Vincent from Zimbabwe, all tied at 65.

Jaecoo J5 EV launched in Indonesia

Jaecoo has officially introduced the all-electric J5 EV in Indonesia, signalling another major step in the brand’s regional expansion within Southeast Asia’s fast-growing EV market. Both variants share a similar powertrain setup, featuring a front-mounted electric motor that produces 211 PS and 288 Nm of torque, powered by a 60.9 kWh battery pack. With this configuration, the J5 EV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds and offers an impressive driving range of up to 461 km based on the NEDC cycle.
