Woman dies, toddler injured in SUV collision on Penang road

Foreign woman killed and two-year-old daughter seriously injured after being hit by SUV while crossing Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Penang.

GEORGE TOWN: A foreign woman died while her two-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries after being struck by a sports utility vehicle while crossing Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah last night.

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad confirmed the 40-year-old woman died at the scene from severe injuries.

Initial investigations revealed that around 8.40 pm, the SUV driver, a 57-year-old local man, was traveling from his Sungai Dua home toward Penang International Airport.

The vehicle struck both victims as they were crossing the road at that location according to his statement today.

Police confirmed the SUV driver remained uninjured in the incident.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
