Water supply restored to over 244,000 accounts after Sungai Johor pollution

Ranhill SAJ reports 244,242 consumer accounts reconnected after Sungai Johor contamination, with tankers supplying affected areas.

JOHOR BAHRU: Ranhill SAJ has restored water supply to 244,242 consumer accounts affected by the raw water pollution incident in Sungai Johor.

The water operator confirmed Pontian district now has full supply restoration following the unscheduled disruption.

Kulai district has seen 79,587 accounts reconnected, representing 65% of affected consumers in that area.

Johor Bahru has 162,833 accounts restored, which is 54% of the total affected in the district.

Kota Tinggi has the lowest restoration rate with only 588 accounts reconnected, constituting just 2% of affected consumers.

A total of 211,257 accounts remain without normal water supply across the three most affected districts.

Johor Bahru has the highest number of ongoing affected accounts at 139,654 consumers.

Kulai follows with 43,786 accounts still awaiting full restoration of services.

Kota Tinggi has 27,817 accounts that continue to experience water supply disruptions.

Ranhill SAJ continues water delivery operations using 40 tankers to support affected consumers.

The company is distributing drinking water to highly populated areas impacted by the supply disruption.

Consumers can obtain updates through Ranhill SAJ’s official channels including their hotline and email.

The pollution crisis began last Friday when turbidity levels in Sungai Johor surged dramatically.

State committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh reported turbidity reached 37,400 NTU compared to the normal 400 NTU.

The contamination resulted from soil movement that ruptured a sand-washing pond at a mining site.

A local company’s sixth sand-washing pond failure caused the pollution entering Sungai Johor’s flow.

Authorities increased water releases from Linggiu Dam to help dilute the contamination.

Alternative water supply deliveries via tankers were arranged for all affected areas throughout the crisis. – Bernama
