Liverpool driver sentenced to 21.5 years for injuring 134 fans

Paul Doyle jailed for 21.5 years after driving into a crowd celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory, injuring 134 people.

LIVERPOOL: A man who drove into a crowd of celebrating football fans has been sentenced to 21.5 years in prison.

Paul Doyle, 54, was convicted on 31 counts of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.

Merseyside Police confirmed the sentence was handed down at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in May when Doyle drove into fans celebrating Liverpool’s victory in the British Premier League.

Authorities did not treat the incident as an act of terrorism, investigating it as a criminal offence.

Police initially stated the detainee was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.
