Russian drone attack injures 19 and damages Zaporizhzhia buildings

Russian drones hit Zaporizhzhia, injuring 19 people and damaging 31 apartment blocks, 20 homes and shops in a major overnight assault.

ZAPORIZHZHIA: Russian forces launched a mass drone attack on this southeastern Ukrainian city late Tuesday, causing extensive damage and injuring 19 people.

Regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported the assault triggered fires and severely damaged buildings and vehicles throughout the city.

“The attack destroyed shops and damaged 31 apartment blocks and 20 private homes,” Fedorov stated on Telegram.

He confirmed eight injured individuals required hospital treatment for their wounds.

Emergency services are conducting rescue operations at 12 different locations across the city.

Fedorov said maximum resources from State Emergency Services, national police and medical teams have been deployed.

Online images showed firefighters battling blazes at high-rise apartment buildings and gutted vehicles on city streets.

Ukraine’s air force reported intercepting 72 out of 90 drones and two ballistic missiles in the country-wide overnight attack.

Russian forces currently occupy large portions of Zaporizhzhia region and have recently made territorial gains.

The city of Zaporizhzhia itself remains under Ukrainian control despite the ongoing occupation of surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Russia-appointed regional head Yevgeny Belitsky claimed Ukrainian forces attacked power infrastructure in Russian-controlled zones.

Belitsky reported power cuts affecting 40,000 customers in Russian-held towns within the region.
