National shuttler Leong Jun Hao aims to regain form as coaching shifts back to an Asian approach, hoping to overcome past struggles with European methods.
NATIONAL singles player Leong Jun Hao is hoping to shine again now that the national coaching style will revert back to an Asian approach.
He admitted to having struggled with the European training approach introduced last year.
His subsequent weak performance saw him manage only two quarterfinal appearances from 19 tournaments throughout 2025.
“From young, I have gotten used to what I have (the Asian training style) and it may be better for me to go back to what I have done previously,” he told reporters after a court test session for the 2026 Malaysia Open.
Jun Hao’s best showings were champion of the 2022 Indonesia Masters and 2023 Super 100 Malaysia, as well as 2024 Japan Masters runner-up.
He also expressed his desire to beat Wang Zheng Xing of China in his opening match at the Malaysia Masters Open, which begins tomorrow.
National singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen has reportedly reverted to an Asian approach.
This follows national players facing difficulties adapting to the European style he introduced early last year.
