KUALA LUMPUR: Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is set to return to Kuala Lumpur next month to meet Malaysian supporters of the English Premier League club as part of The Famous CFC fan engagement event.

The two-day event, scheduled for Oct 30 and 31, will be organised by Chelsea’s Official Hotels Partner, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), at Ascott Kuala Lumpur and Ascott Star KLCC Kuala Lumpur.

The event will also feature a series of exclusive meet-and-greet sessions and fan activities, including a watch party for the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester United, which will be screened live from Stamford Bridge.

Hasselbaink, who visited Kuala Lumpur as part of the Chelsea squad that won the FA Premier League Asia Cup in 2003, said he was looking forward to returning to the Malaysian capital and reconnecting with the club’s supporters.

“I really enjoyed visiting Kuala Lumpur previously, having been there when Chelsea visited for the FA Premier League Asia Cup just over two decades ago.

“Reliving those memories will be special, but what excites me most is meeting our fans in Kuala Lumpur, a city where the passion of the Blues always comes alive,” he said in a statement.

Hasselbaink, who wore the No. 9 shirt during his time at Stamford Bridge, won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2000-01 season after scoring 23 league goals.

Meanwhile, Ascott chief commercial officer Tan Bee Leng said Kuala Lumpur was a natural next destination for The Famous CFC following previous editions held in Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta and Hanoi.

She said the event was aimed at bringing Chelsea supporters closer to the club while offering Ascott Star Rewards (ASR) members exclusive experiences through its partnership with the club.

“We are committed to bringing iconic experiences to life through Ascott Star Rewards, creating heartfelt moments and lasting memories that our members will remember long after they return home,” she said.

Chelsea director of partnerships Alex Smith said the club was delighted to bring The Famous CFC to Kuala Lumpur, describing the Malaysian capital as a city with a passionate Chelsea following.

“Along with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, we look forward to creating more unforgettable moments with our fans and celebrating the strength of the Chelsea community,” he said.
