FAM clarifies suspended sec-gen attended FIFA event in personal capacity

Football Association of Malaysia says suspended secretary-general met FIFA president Gianni Infantino in personal capacity, not official FAM business.

THE Football Association of Malaysia has clarified that its suspended secretary-general attended an event involving FIFA president Gianni Infantino in his personal capacity.

FAM acting president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi stated that photos published by a news portal were taken outside official FAM or FIFA events.

He confirmed that Datuk Noor Azman Rahman’s presence was personal and not related to any official FAM business.

Mohd Yusoff added that Noor Azman has been completely excluded from all official FAM activities since his suspension on October 17.

The acting president hopes this explanation will clarify any confusion arising from the news portal’s report.

Noor Azman was suspended immediately on October 17 following a disciplinary decision regarding documentation issues involving seven national heritage players.

FAM and the seven heritage players were penalised by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee last month for violating Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code related to document falsification.

FIFA stated that FAM submitted falsified documents to confirm player eligibility for the Asian Cup Qualifiers match against Vietnam on June 10.

The association received a fine of 350,000 Swiss francs while each player was fined 2,000 Swiss francs and suspended for 12 months from all football activities.

FAM previously explained that a technical error occurred during the submission process involving the seven players’ documents by an administrative staff member.

The association hasn’t ruled out appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if their FIFA appeal fails. – Bernama
