Cristiano Ronaldo reveals he will retire “soon” and expects to cry, while sharing his thoughts on Manchester United’s current struggles.
LONDON: Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he plans to retire from football “soon” and expects an emotional farewell.
The 40-year-old Al Nassr and Portugal forward spoke about his future plans in an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored.
When asked about retirement timing, Ronaldo stated: “Soon. But I think I will be prepared.”
He acknowledged the emotional challenge ahead, saying: “It will be tough, of course. It will be difficult? Yes. Probably (I) will cry, yes… I’m (an) open person. (It) will be very, very difficult, yes.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner emphasized his long-term preparation for life after football.
“I prepare my future since (the age of) 25, 26, 27 years old, I prepare (for) my future. So I think I will be capable to support that pressure,” he added.
Ronaldo also shared his thoughts on Manchester United’s current situation under his former Portugal teammate Ruben Amorim.
“He’s doing his best,” Ronaldo said of Amorim’s management.
“What are you going to do? Miracles. Miracles is impossible. We say in Portugal, ‘Miracles is only in Fatima’… And he’s not going to do miracles.”
The legendary forward expressed concern about United’s direction despite his enduring affection for the club.
“Manchester United is still in my heart. I love that club,” Ronaldo stated.
“But we have all to be honest and look for ourselves and say, ‘Listen, they are not in a good path’. So, they need to change and it’s not only about the coach and players, in my opinion.”
Ronaldo has scored 952 career goals, including 102 in 115 games for Al Nassr and 102 international goals for Portugal. – Bernama-PA Media/dpa
