German Football Federation condemns hateful comments targeting Union Berlin’s Marie-Louise Eta, vowing zero tolerance for discrimination in the sport.
GERMAN Football Federation has strongly condemned sexist remarks made on social media about Union Berlin coach Marie-Louise Eta.
DFB vice-president Celia Sasic told the t-online news portal that the unacceptable comments attack core sporting values of respect, fairness, and equality.
Eta recently made history by becoming the first woman to serve as head coach of a men’s team in a top European league.
Her debut on Saturday ended in a 2-1 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg, after which she was targeted with hateful comments online.
Sasic praised Union Berlin for directly responding to some of the abusive posts, calling the club’s action absolutely the right thing.
The DFB has clear procedures to monitor, report, and forward offensive or criminal comments to prosecutors during matches.
Sasic emphasised there is zero tolerance for sexist or discriminatory incidents, with every match closely watched for such behaviour.
Eta herself stated that the vitriolic online commentary does not bother her personally.
She added that such remarks say more about the people posting them than about their targets.
