Malaysia thrashed 13-0 by Netherlands in final WJWC group match

Malaysia’s women’s squad lost 13-0 to the Netherlands, finishing bottom of their World Youth Championship group without a point.

THE national women’s squad’s desire to end the Group A campaign on a positive note was thwarted when Malaysia were thrashed 13-0 by the Netherlands in the final group match at the 2025 World Youth Championship (WJWC) today.

In the match held in Santiago, the Netherlands did not wait long to take control of the game when they opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute through a penalty corner (PC) by Noor van den Nieuwenhof (also scoring in the 57th minute) before Maud van den Heuvel doubled the lead with a field goal (FG) two minutes later (7′, 35′, FG).

Iris de Kemp also scored three goals (15’ PC, 17’, 35’ FG), followed by Guusje Moes (19’ FG), Mea de Vries (33’ PC, 42’ FG), Imke Verstraeten (36’, 49’ PC) and Trijintje Beljaars (45’ FG) to make it a gloomy day for Malaysia.

The result saw Young Tigress finish bottom of Group A with no points while the Netherlands comfortably emerged as group champions with nine points followed by Japan (six points) and Chile (three points).

Only the group champions and the two best runners-up teams will advance to the quarter-finals while the other four runners-up and the four best third-placed teams will compete in the ninth to 16th place play-offs.

The remaining teams will play to determine 17th to 24th place. – Bernama
