The 29-year-old received a Certificate of Distinguished International Excellence for his exceptional performances at major tournaments. ISTAF highlighted his elite technical mastery, tactical intelligence, and mental resilience as key factors in his success.

His achievements include leading Malaysia to victory in the regu event at the 2024 World Cup and the 2025 Asian Cup. He also played a pivotal role in Malaysia’s historic gold medal wins over Thailand at the 2025 SEA Games.

The certificate stated the recognition honours his outstanding contribution to international sepak takraw and his role in elevating Malaysia’s global stature in the sport. ISTAF expressed hope the award would inspire future generations of athletes.

Malaysian Sepaktakraw Federation president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said Muhammad Syahir deserved the accolade based on his recent performances. “He has proven himself in several international tournaments as a feared tekong,” Mohd Sumali said.
