Real Madrid to seek substantial damages after UEFA appeal rejected
REAL MADRID will pursue substantial compensation from UEFA after a Spanish court dismissed the European football body’s appeal regarding the breakaway Super League.
The Madrid court on Wednesday rejected UEFA’s challenge to previous rulings about the controversial competition.
Twelve elite European clubs originally proposed the Super League in 2021 before it collapsed under fan pressure and governing body threats.

The European Court of Justice declared UEFA’s ban on the Super League illegal under European law in December 2023.
A Spanish judge last year ruled that FIFA and UEFA had prevented free competition through their opposition to the project.
The court also dismissed appeals from La Liga and the Spanish football federation this week.
Legal uncertainty remains because the contested regulations have been completely rewritten since the original case.
Real Madrid expressed delight at the ruling confirming UEFA’s infringement of European competition rules.
The club announced it would continue working for global football’s benefit while claiming damages from UEFA.
Project promoter A22 Sports Management said UEFA refused compromise despite months of discussions.
A22 claimed it had no choice but to initiate proceedings for compensation for damages suffered. – AFP
