MyNIISe app not mandatory yet, travellers have multiple clearance options

Immigration DG says MyNIISe app use is optional, with QR codes, manual checks and autogates still available for entry into Malaysia.

PUTRAJAYA: The National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) mobile application is not currently mandatory for travellers entering Malaysia.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban confirmed that multiple existing clearance methods remain fully operational at all entry points.

These options include using a QR code via the MyBorderPass app, manual processing, or conventional automated gates.

“At present, the use of MyNIISe is not mandatory, and travellers still have other options, including passing through autogates using their passports, not only via QR codes,” Zakaria said.

He urged the public not to worry if they have not yet adopted the new MyNIISe system.

The department continues to encourage the public to use the MyNIISe application for its faster and more efficient clearance process.

Users wishing to utilise the QR code facility must download the MyNIISe app and register using a MyDigital ID.

Zakaria stated that the MyBorderPass application will be maintained until it is fully integrated into the MyNIISe system.

A transition period for this integration has yet to be determined by the Immigration Department.

The replacement of all older automated gates will also be carried out in stages.

The Home Ministry previously announced that MyDigital ID would be implemented as a single login platform for the MyNIISe app starting January 15.

This initiative aims to verify user identities securely through the National Registration Department database.

The MyNIISe application was first introduced at entry points in Johor Bahru in September last year.

It will be expanded in stages to Kuala Lumpur International Airport and other major airports.

As of December 30, the app had recorded nearly 600,000 downloads with over 287,000 registered users.
