Wanita Umno proposes elevating women in halal industry as a national priority, while Puteri Umno urges government-led HPV vaccination programmes.
KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno has proposed elevating the Women in the Halal Industry agenda as a key national priority under the National Halal Industry Development Council (MPIH).
Its chief, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, said the proposal is a strategic move to empower women’s participation and strengthen the national economy.
“Wanita Umno believes that economic strength is one of the core foundations for building strong families, ensuring social stability and driving national progress,” she said.
She delivered these remarks in her closing speech at the 2025 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre.
Meanwhile, Puteri Umno chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi urged the government to place greater emphasis on women’s reproductive health.
She specifically called for enhanced vaccination and education programmes related to the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Nurul Amal said HPV is a preventable health threat and proposed making HPV vaccination a standard programme for all women.
She also stressed the need to ensure access to psychological support services as part of this initiative.
“If the government does not take the initiative, who else will? We are in government, and we have the authority to implement these programmes,” she said.
The 2025 Umno General Assembly began on Wednesday and concluded today.
It had been postponed twice in August and November to allow the party to focus on preparations for the 17th Sabah State Election.
