Tottenham’s Frank admits ‘hurting’ after latest defeat

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank says the club is hurting after a stoppage-time loss to West Ham, with Spurs languishing in 14th place

TOTTENHAM Hotspur manager Thomas Frank said the club’s poor run was “hurting so much” after a stoppage-time defeat to West Ham United.

Spurs slumped to a 2-1 home loss on Saturday, their eighth defeat in 14 games across all competitions this season.

The result leaves Tottenham languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, having won just two of their 11 home league matches.

Fans chanted “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at the beleaguered Frank after Callum Wilson’s late winner for the Hammers.

“It’s tough to take, it hurts a lot,” Frank told Sky Sports. “The boys put everything in, and that’s a sign of a squad that is fighting, doing everything they can to try and win.”

West Ham took a deserved lead through Crysencio Summerville’s 15th-minute opener.

Cristian Romero’s header offered hope for the hosts, but Wilson bundled home from a corner in the third minute of stoppage-time to seal the win.

Frank believed his side should have been the victors in the second half. “It’s fair to say, if there was to be a winner in the second half, then it should have been us,” he said.

He pointed to conceding late goals as a particular emotional blow. “The way we came back into it, the same as at Bournemouth, both games we lost in the last minute,” Frank added.

Spurs now face Borussia Dortmund at home in the Champions League on Tuesday before a league trip to Burnley.

The club won the Europa League last season but finished a disappointing 17th in the Premier League.

“It’s tough times, the only thing we can do is move forward,” said the former Brentford boss. “We have to go again.”
