The Malaysian Scouts Federation launches community-based scouting in Sarawak to boost youth membership and leadership development across Sabah and Sarawak.
BINTULU: The Malaysian Scouts Federation (PPM) is strengthening its role in shaping youth character in Sabah and Sarawak through a new Community-Based Scouting (CBS) programme.
National Chief Scout, Maj Gen (Rtd) Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin (pic), said the CBS approach allows the movement to expand inclusively while responding to local community needs.
He stated that while school-based scouting has contributed significantly, the community approach must be expanded to benefit more youths.
“Through CBS, scouting is brought directly into villages, residential areas and local communities, making it more accessible and closely aligned with the real needs of society,” he said at the programme launch.
He added that CBS is particularly suitable for Sarawak given its vast geography and diverse communities.
Mohd Zin said CBS offers opportunities for all youths to join and benefit from character and leadership training.
PPM is targeting a membership increase from 700,000 to 1 million in the coming years through the nationwide CBS implementation.
The programme was launched by Sarawak Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
