“Because of oranges” – Malay woman says she’s always excited for Chinese New Year

“I’m Malay, but I’ve always been the most excited about Chinese New Year. Why? Not because of angpow or anything — it’s because of the oranges.”

A 27-year-old Malay woman has gone viral recently after sharing on Threads that she always been most excited for Chinese New Year (CNY) every year.

However it’s not for reasons many would think, no, not for the red packets but simply oranges!

“I’m Malay, but I’ve always been the most excited about Chinese New Year. Why? Not because of angpow or anything — it’s because of the oranges.”

She went on to explain that as a kid, her father would come home with a box full of Mandarin oranges given by his company.

“I was always the most excited one and could finish the whole box by myself in one go.”

She admits that even now as a 27-year-old, the joy of receiving and eating oranges during Chinese New Year still remains.

“Even now, as a 27-year-old “baby,” I still get excited during CNY, secretly hoping to receive some oranges.”

She added that its not the same feeling to purchase the oranges herself.

“It’s the vibe. I miss it so much.”

Since going viral, a few kind netizens have even offered to send oranges to her.

One user replied, “Hello. Where do you stay? Can I send you a box for this coming CNY?”

Another wrote, “You’re so cute!!! Hope you get lots of oranges this year!”
