Dewan Rakyat will focus on the new RM80/month MHIT plan, MA63 benefits for Sabah and Sarawak, and subsidised cooking oil distribution
KUALA LUMPUR: The introduction of a low-premium basic health insurance plan and issues surrounding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are set for discussion in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Order Paper, Khoo Poay Tiong (PH–Kota Melaka) will ask the Finance Minister to explain the objectives of the Medical and Health Insurance and Takaful (MHIT) plan.
He will seek details on its target groups and how it aims to reduce household medical costs compared to existing schemes.
The MHIT plan features premiums as low as RM80 per month.
During the same session, Datuk Matbali Musah (GRS–Sipitang) will ask the Prime Minister to outline the government’s current approach to MA63.
He will request clarification on expected direct benefits for the people of Sabah and Sarawak compared to previous administrations.
A question by Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN–Kuala Krai) to the Domestic Trade Minister will focus on the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme (eCOSS).
He will inquire about its effectiveness in reaching the elderly and rural poor without internet access.
The question also seeks measures to ensure no households are excluded due to the application-based system.
During the oral question session, Datuk Shamshulkahar Mohd Deli (BN–Jempol) will question the Higher Education Minister on graduate competencies.
He will ask about measures to prevent over-reliance on artificial intelligence following the Student Generative AI Survey 2025.
Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH–Port Dickson) will ask the Prime Minister to outline measures to ease haj access for Tabung Haji depositors.
This follows concerns that financial and health factors led some to defer offers for the 1446H season.
After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will resume debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address.
The current parliamentary sitting is scheduled to last 20 days until March 3.
