KTMB adds extra ETS and EMU+ trains for CNY and Hari Raya travel

KTMB adds eight ETS services and new EMU+  trains for Chinese New Year and Hari Raya, offering over 70,000 additional tickets for key routes

KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is adding eight special Electric Train Service (ETS) trips to accommodate travel demand for Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

A total of 26,460 additional ETS tickets for Chinese New Year travel went on sale from January 24.

These tickets cover routes including KL Sentral to Ipoh, Butterworth, Padang Besar, and JB Sentral for travel between February 13 and 22.

Key additional departures include the 11.05 am service from Padang Besar to KL Sentral and the 5.00 pm return trip.

Further services on the KL Sentral-Ipoh and KL Sentral-Butterworth routes will operate from February 14 to 16 and February 20 to 22.

KTMB will also introduce its new Electric Multiple Unit Plus (EMU+) service on the KL Sentral-Ipoh route from February 13 to 15 and 20 to 22.

The EMU+ service, offering a daily capacity of 1,200 passengers via four trips, is already sold out for its operational period.

For Hari Raya Aidilfitri, an additional 36,540 tickets will be offered for sale starting March 1 at 12.00 pm.

These tickets cover travel periods from March 13 to 29, March 16 to 20, and March 23 to 29 on the same routes.

The combined availability of ETS and EMU+ tickets for both festive periods now stands at 70,200.

This allows for up to 56 daily service trips across the network during the peak travel seasons.

“This step has been taken to accommodate the increase in passenger demand, thereby providing more comfortable, safe and user-preferred travel options,” KTMB said in a statement.

Separately, KTMB announced the ETS service on the JB Sentral-Butterworth route will be maintained starting February 4.

The frequency on this route will be increased from two to four trips per day.

This raises the total number of daily ETS services across all routes from 40 to 44 trips.

“KTMB encourages commuters to plan their journeys early and purchase tickets in advance to enjoy more economical fares and avoid congestion or last-minute rush,” the company advised.
