A 70-year-old woman, locally known as ‘Moksu Bedak Sejuk’, was killed after being hit by a car on Jalan Sultan Ibrahim in Kota Bharu.
KOTA BHARU: An elderly woman in her 70s, known locally as ‘Moksu Bedak Sejuk’, died after being hit by a car on Jalan Sultan Ibrahim here today.
Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Mohd Azmir Damiri said police received a report of the accident at 8.46 am.
The incident is believed to have occurred at about 7.35 am in front of a Shell petrol station.
Preliminary investigations found the driver was travelling from KB Mall towards the Padang Roundabout.
“The victim, Tengku Jariah Hanna Tuan Ismail, was believed to be crossing the road at the time,” Mohd Azmir said in a statement.
He stated that due to the close distance, the driver in his rightful lane was unable to avoid the collision.
The victim was taken to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for treatment.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital’s Red Zone ward, while the driver was unhurt.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are calling for witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation.
The victim, who had a Persons with Disabilities (PwD) card, was widely known for using traditional rice powder on her face.
She was also recognised for her friendly demeanour within the local community
