Raja of Perlis calls for adherence to authentic Sunnah teachings, distinguishing them from cultural practices, at the Perlis International Sunnah Convention.
KANGAR: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, today called on Muslims to strengthen their understanding and adherence to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a fundamental source of knowledge and guidance in daily life.
His Royal Highness said the Sunnah plays a vital role not only in acts of worship but also in shaping personal character, strengthening society and building a resilient civilisation grounded in moral and ethical values.
“The Sunnah shapes individuals before shaping society, and it builds society before producing a strong and resilient civilisation,” His Royal Highness said when officiating the closing ceremony of the Third Series of the Perlis International Sunnah Convention 2026 at Dewan 2020 here, today.
Also in attendance were the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said Muslims must be guided to distinguish between religious practices that are rooted in authentic teachings and those influenced by customs or assumptions without clear foundations in Islam.
“Islam is built upon clear, structured and authentic guidance, not upon inherited practices that lack proper understanding. Matters not grounded in authentic guidance, even if they appear good on the surface, may cause confusion if not examined with knowledge and wisdom,” His Royal Highness said.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin noted that while cultural traditions may be practised in daily life, they must remain within the boundaries set by the Quran and the Sunnah, especially in matters where Islamic law does not prescribe specific rulings.
He said the convention, themed “Sunnah: The Source of Knowledge”, had attracted encouraging participation from both local and international attendees, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of strengthening understanding of the Sunnah in contemporary society.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also expressed appreciation to the organisers and speakers, describing the gathering as more than an academic event but a platform for meaningful exchange of knowledge, perspectives and expertise among scholars and da’wah figures.
His Royal Highness added that reviving the Sunnah in character development and civilisation-building was an urgent necessity to ensure a dignified society and a prosperous nation, before officially declaring the Third Series of the Perlis International Sunnah Convention 2026 closed.
