Philippines repatriates 190 OFWs rescued from Cambodian scam hubs

The Philippine government has brought home 190 overseas workers rescued from scam operations in Cambodia, marking the latest repatriation effort in an ongoing crackdown.

MANILA: The Philippine government has repatriated 190 overseas Filipino workers rescued from scam hubs in Cambodia.

The group arrived via a chartered Philippine Airlines flight at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the operation was part of a whole-of-government approach.

“As per the instruction of our beloved President to provide full protection to our OFWs, we are here, joining forces, to provide assistance to OFWs from scam hub operations and crackdowns in Cambodia,” Cacdac stated.

He explained that 191 individuals were originally set to return.

One person remained in Phnom Penh for medical treatment, with embassy officials monitoring the situation.

DMW Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi said doctors did not allow the OFW to travel due to a serious medical condition.

He assured that a team from the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia is closely monitoring her.

This latest batch brings the total number of assisted and repatriated OFW scam victims to 877 since 2022.

Upon arrival, the repatriates underwent medical and psycho-social checks by the Department of Health and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The government also provided them with temporary shelter, financial assistance, and transport back to their home provinces.
