Perlis JPJ issued 741 summonses to foreign drivers for various traffic offences from January to June, says its director.
ARAU: The Perlis Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 741 JPJ(P)22 summons notices to foreign drivers for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 during enforcement operations conducted across the state from January to last Tuesday.
Perlis JPJ director Noraini Mohd Nawi said the most common offences were technical violations (210 cases), followed by driver licensing (190), other offences (166), vehicle licensing (140) and tinted windows (35).
“This operation focuses on foreign drivers who do not possess a valid Competent Driving Licence (CDL), use vehicles without insurance coverage, do not have an International Driving Permit (IDP), have outstanding summonses, and commit various other offences,” she said in a press conference at the state JPJ office today.
Noraini said summonses were also issued to local vehicle owners who allowed foreign nationals to drive their vehicles without meeting the stipulated requirements.
Perlis JPJ also seized 95 vehicles driven by foreign nationals, including a luxury vehicle, during the same period for various offences under existing laws.
Of the total, 65 vehicles belonged to locals while 30 were owned by foreign nationals, comprising 17 motorcycles, eight cars and five Thai-registered vans.
Meanwhile, she said from January to June this year, three foreign offenders attended court and were each fined RM750, while action was taken against 243 vehicles involving 468 offences, with compound collections amounting to RM89,200.
