SPRM chief Azam Baki gave a statement to a special committee last Thursday, with the probe into his share ownership still ongoing, says KSN
PUTRAJAYA: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar (pic) confirmed that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki was called to give a statement last Thursday.
He said the Special Investigation Committee regarding the share ownership issue held a meeting on Feb 19.
“Based on the preliminary report received, the committee is examining the aspects of compliance and regularity of the share ownership by Azam,” Shamsul Azri said in a statement.
He added that the committee is still in the process of evaluating all evidence obtained.
It will call other relevant witnesses to complete the investigation into the matter.
“The committee assures that a comprehensive investigation will be carried out transparently, independently and professionally,” he stated.
Shamsul Azri also said the investigation results and proposed considerations for further action will be submitted to the authorities.
This includes if any violations of criminal laws or regulations in force are found.
Media previously reported that Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar was appointed chairman of the special committee.
Also on the committee are Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
Bloomberg had earlier reported claims that Azam owned shares in a financial services company based on corporate filings.
Azam, however, recently stated at a press conference that his shareholding worth RM800,000 in a financial services company was done transparently and according to procedure.
