Sultan of Brunei arrives in Malaysia for 47th ASEAN Summit

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah arrives in Subang to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit, underscoring Brunei’s commitment to regional cooperation.

SUBANG: The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, arrived in Malaysia today to participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

His Majesty’s special aircraft landed at the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base in Subang at 6.30 pm accompanied by his delegation including Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir received the Bruneian monarch upon his arrival.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah then inspected a guard of honour provided by two officers and 34 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

Captain Ashraf Zulkifli led the honour guard ceremony for the visiting head of state.

The Sultan’s attendance highlights Brunei Darussalam’s firm dedication to strengthening regional cooperation and ASEAN solidarity.

Malaysia currently holds the ASEAN Chairmanship with the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’ for this year’s summit.

This leadership role demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to building a united, resilient and forward-looking ASEAN Community.

Malaysia has previously chaired ASEAN four times in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015 since the bloc’s formation in 1967.

The 47th ASEAN Summit will convene at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 26 to 28.

All ten ASEAN member states’ leaders will gather alongside key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan and South Africa. – Bernama
