Malaysians get affordable data roaming in Timor-Leste from major telcos

Malaysian telcos activate seamless 4G data roaming in Timor-Leste, offering affordable rates and supporting ASEAN digital connectivity.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians can now access seamless data roaming services in Timor-Leste at affordable rates following successful service activation by the country’s major mobile operators.

The Communications Ministry confirmed that CelcomDigi, Maxis, TM, and U Mobile activated their data roaming services beginning October 17.

YTL Communications commenced its own data roaming service for Timor-Leste on October 24.

This initiative ensures Malaysians in Timor-Leste enjoy smooth and affordable data roaming comparable to services in other ASEAN member states.

The introduction of 4G roaming represents a significant upgrade from the previous 2G and 3G network infrastructure available in Timor-Leste.

This achievement resulted from close cooperation between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Timor-Leste’s Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações.

Strategic roaming partnerships between Malaysian mobile operators and Timor-Leste’s Telkomsel, Telemor, and Timor Telecom also enabled the service launch.

The milestone aligns with the priorities of Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship will emphasise inclusivity, sustainability, and digital connectivity across the region.
