Man allegedly slashed to death by own cousin in Tumpat

A 46-year-old man was fatally attacked by his cousin in Tumpat, with the suspect testing positive for drugs during police investigation.

TUMPAT: A 46-year-old local man is believed to have been fatally slashed by his cousin in an incident at Kampung Kok Bedullah here yesterday.

The victim, identified as Mohd Shuhairi Hashim, was confirmed dead at the scene.
Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed that police have detained the suspect involved in the case.

He stated the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“The urine screening test conducted on the suspect was confirmed positive for drugs and possession,” he said.

He added that further details regarding the case would be released in an official statement.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother Wan Salma Wan Said said she found her son covered in a pool of blood near their house.

She stated that at the time of the incident, she was upstairs in the house and preparing to sleep.

“At that time, I heard someone groaning in pain,” she said at the Tumpat Hospital Forensics Unit today.

“I immediately opened the house window and saw my son lying down and groaning in pain in a horrifying state.”

“Next to him, I saw my nephew (the suspect) shouting.”

“I am not sure what happened, but I believe there might have been a misunderstanding between them that led to this tragic incident.”

Wan Salma said the suspect had earlier told her that the victim did something hurtful and personal.

She said the suspect did not elaborate further before leaving for his house.

“After that, I immediately contacted my other child before making a police report,” she said.

She said that at the time of the incident, the victim was believed to be washing an excavator alone.

She added that the suspect then approached him and attacked him with an unknown sharp object.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi today granted a one week remand order.

This allows police to investigate the suspect under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The suspect is expected to be charged for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. – Bernama
