MARA says no special treatment for loan repayments, all borrowers VIPs

MARA chairman says no exemptions for VIPs, all borrowers treated equally with tightened financial discipline and regular monitoring of repayments.

ALOR SETAR: MARA does not grant special treatment or exemptions to any individuals regarding loan repayments according to its chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He emphasised that MARA does not consider a borrower’s background when managing repayments and will not entertain support letters from any party.

“All borrowers are regarded as very important persons,” Asyraf Wajdi told reporters after the Kedah and Perlis State-level Women Empowerment Programme.

“Even those who fail to repay their loans are considered VIPs,” he added.

He stated there is no such thing as VIPs being exempted from payment while others must pay.

“In this regard, we do not look at who the borrower is,” he said.

“There will no longer be any so-called ‘love letters’ from any party requesting leniency in repayment matters,” he stressed.

MARA has tightened its financial discipline including issuing notices to borrowers if repayments are delayed for more than three months.

Reports on loan repayment performance are tabled regularly to MARA’s management to monitor collection trends.

“So far, I am satisfied as there has been an improvement in loan repayments,” Asyraf Wajdi said.

“This could also reflect the growing awareness among the public that every sen repaid is used entirely to assist others,” he added.

He urged borrowers facing difficulties in making repayments not to remain silent but to reach out to MARA to discuss suitable repayment solutions. – Bernama
