Sarawak welfare department ready with 617 personnel for flood relief

Sarawak JKM deploys 617 officers, 13 psychologists and 500 volunteers to assist over 1,100 flood victims at relief centres across three districts.

KUCHING: The Sarawak Department of Social Welfare (JKM) has 617 officers and personnel on standby for disaster management and flood response operations.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said 13 psychology officers are also ready to assist victims.

She stated that a psychological support team of 270 members and 230 JKM volunteers are prepared for deployment.

“We do not want flood victims staying at relief centres to feel uncomfortable, especially children,” she told reporters after visiting a relief centre at Surau Ar-Rahman in Kampung Sungai Batu.

As of this afternoon, 1,178 people from 300 families remain at 10 relief centres in Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Lawas.
