Russian deputy PM arrives in Malaysia for East Asia Summit

SUBANG: Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk arrived in Malaysia today to participate in the upcoming 20th East Asia Summit.

His special aircraft touched down at the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base in Subang at 5 pm carrying him and his delegation.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad welcomed the Russian delegation upon their arrival at the airbase.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrey Rudenko was among the officials accompanying Overchuk on this diplomatic mission.

Malaysia is currently serving as the ASEAN Chair for the year 2025 and is hosting these significant international gatherings.

More than 30 world leaders from various nations are attending the summits to enhance regional cooperation.

Participants include leaders from ASEAN member states and major global powers like the United States and China.

Other attending nations include Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The summits aim to strengthen engagement while addressing regional and global challenges of mutual concern.

Representatives from international organizations are also participating in these high-level meetings.

Attendees include officials from the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, World Bank and FIFA.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits is currently underway at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

These important diplomatic meetings will continue through Tuesday, featuring extensive discussions on regional issues.

The 20th East Asia Summit specifically will take place on Monday as part of this series of gatherings. – Bernama
