Trump reaffirms US commitment to ASEAN at Kuala Lumpur summit

KUALA LUMPUR: United States President Donald Trump reaffirmed Washington’s full commitment to Southeast Asia during the 13th ASEAN-US Summit.

Trump pledged an enduring partnership under what he described as the golden age of America.

He stated the US remains firmly dedicated to advancing a free, open and thriving Indo-Pacific region.

The President emphasised strengthening ties with ASEAN nations in trade, investment and regional security.

Trump declared his message to Southeast Asian nations is that the US is with them 100 percent.

He confirmed America intends to be a strong partner and friend for many generations to come.

Trump asserted his administration had restored America’s strength and global standing.

He described the present period as one of unmatched economic success and international engagement.

Trump noted that one year ago America was in a different position.

He proclaimed that now the United States is in the best position it has ever been.

Trump highlighted that US and Indo-Pacific partners are poised to create incredible prosperity.

He said this prosperity will benefit nations on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.

Trump expressed pleasure at being in Southeast Asia with America’s most important allies.

He stated his purpose is to deepen commercial ties and strengthen common security.

The President aims to promote stability, prosperity and peace for all countries in the region.

Trump praised Malaysia for its leadership and hospitality under Anwar’s administration.

He noted his visit allowed him to witness Malaysia’s progress and achievements firsthand.

Trump described his experience in Malaysia as truly amazing despite only one day.

He humorously recounted Prime Minister Anwar showing him everything during his visit.

Trump mentioned their conversation during the ride in The Beast presidential car.

The vehicle was specially flown from the Bunga Raya Complex to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Trump highlighted the historic roots of America’s ties with Asia dating to early republic days.

He recalled fearless Americans voyaging across the Pacific to establish trade outposts.

Trump noted those bonds continue to strengthen and grow to this day in Kuala Lumpur.

He expressed looking forward to speaking with leaders at the APEC meeting in South Korea.

Trump cited progress on Indo-Pacific trade deals with Cambodia, Japan and South Korea.

He said the US is delighted to forge stronger partnerships in various industries.

These include energy, technology, artificial intelligence and critical minerals.

Trump noted the signing of a new trade agreement with Malaysia during his visit.

He mentioned his role in brokering the peace deal between Cambodia and Thailand.

Trump confirmed he fulfilled his promise to attend the ASEAN Summit after Malaysia’s mediation.

Malaysia played a pivotal role in peace efforts between the two neighbouring countries.

This culminated in the signing of the KL Peace Accord during the summit.

Trump said this peace deal represents one of eight conflicts resolved in eight months.

He included the end of the war in Gaza among these resolved conflicts.

Trump described the Gaza agreement as a very strong peace involving 59 countries.

He expressed honour at having resolved these conflicts and saving millions of lives.

Trump thanked Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia for their incredible support in these efforts.

He specifically mentioned his friend President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia.

Trump declared these efforts will secure a new day for the Middle East region.

He proclaimed the Middle East will have peace after 3,000 years of conflict.
