Floods: JAWI calls on worshippers in KL, Putrajaya, Labuan to perform ‘solat hajat’

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) has urged all mosques, Friday prayer surau and surau in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan to organise solat hajat (prayer of need), seeking the protection of Allah SWT and the well-being of the people affected by floods.

Its director, Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail, called on worshippers to perform solat hajat after Maghrib prayers tonight and Friday prayers tomorrow.

He said the mosques and surau in the Federal Territories would also raise funds through a special collection during Friday prayers and assist flood victims through the agencies under the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).

“We pray that all rescue teams are granted safety and ease, and all our brothers and sisters are granted resilience in facing this calamity,” he said in a statement today.

As of noon, 26,914 people are staking refuge at 131 temporary flood relief centres in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor and Sabah.

Alert level continuous rain is forecast throughout the day in Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru).–Bernama
