A total of 22 companies contributed RM49.9 million in business zakat to PPZ-MAIWP, supporting socioeconomic development initiatives.
A TOTAL of 22 corporate entities contributed almost RM50 million in business zakat to Pusat Pungutan Zakat – Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ-MAIWP), underscoring the corporate sector’s continued commitment to strengthening the socio-economic well-being of the Muslim community.
The organisations collectively contributed RM49.9 million in business zakat during the Corporate Zakat Ceremony 2026 held at the World Trade Centre on June 22.
The annual event brought together companies that have consistently fulfilled their zakat obligations, reflecting not only strong Syariah compliance but also a shared commitment to supporting community development through zakat contributions.
PPZ-MAIWP chairman Datuk Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman received the contributions on behalf of the organisation. The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Marhamah Rosli.

Also in attendance were MAIWP chairman Datuk Haji Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer, MAIWP chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nizam Haji Yahya, and PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer Datuk Haji Abdul Hakim Amir Osman.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Marhamah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan highlighted the crucial role played by the corporate sector in addressing socio-economic challenges faced by the Muslim community.
“We must acknowledge that the issue of urban poverty and the plight of the marginalized today require collective support from all of us. The corporate sector cannot walk alone, and zakat agencies also need strategic partners like these corporate companies,” he said.
According to PPZ-MAIWP, business zakat collections from January to May this year reached RM72.2 million, contributed by companies across various sectors.
Last year, business zakat accounted for 16% of PPZ-MAIWP’s total zakat collection, amounting to RM196.5 million, making it the organisation’s second-largest source of zakat revenue after income zakat.
PPZ-MAIWP said the growing participation of corporate entities demonstrates increasing awareness of the importance of business zakat in supporting programmes aimed at uplifting vulnerable communities and empowering the ummah economically.
The organisation also encouraged more businesses to fulfil their zakat obligations before the close of the 2026 financial year, adding that various physical and digital payment channels are available, including online assessment facilities and door-to-door consultation services.
