ISKANDAR PUTERI: The construction of the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Teaching Hospital in Sedili, Kota Tinggi is expected to help resolve overcrowding at Kota Tinggi Hospital, the Johor Legislative Assembly was told today.
State Health and Unity Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon (pix) said the construction of the Kota Tinggi Type 3 Health Clinic with an allocation of RM24.97 million, which is expected to be ready by the end of next year, is also able to overcome the issue.
“As announced by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) during the tabling of Budget 2024 on Oct 13, the government agreed to implement the construction of the USIM Teaching Hospital with an allocation of approximately RM938 million, expected to start next year.
“So far, the construction of the Kota Tinggi Type 3 Health Clinic is 46.35 per cent (complete) and this clinic is located only two kilometres from the existing hospital,“ he said when replying to a question from Rashidah Ismail (BN-Pasir Raja).
Meanwhile, Johor Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the state government together with the federal government and the state water operator, Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd were planning various efforts to ensure sufficient water supply for industrial areas and surrounding residents.
“Among the projects that will be developed are the Lebak River Water Reservoir Development (TAPS) with a capacity of 200 million litres per day as well as the Pontian River TAPS and Pontian River Barrage Development with a capacity of 260 million litres per day to increase raw water resources.
“Others are the development of a package plant with a capacity of 50 litres of water per day at the Semangar Water Treatment Plant (LRA) and the LRA Semangar 3,“ he said when replying to a question from Wong Bor Yang (PH-Senai).
Mohamad Fazli (BN-Bukit Pasir) said all the water supply projects are expected to be completed in 2030.
He said Phase 1 of the data centre hub in Johor known as Sedenak Tech Park (STeP) with an area of 283.28 hectares is expected to be completed next year and Phase II with an area of 258.99 hectares will be completed in 2028 . –Bernama
