KUALA LUMPUR: Nara Food Fair is scheduled to be held in Malaysia for the first time starting tomorrow, with the aim of expanding sales channels for food and beverage products manufactured in Nara Prefecture, Japan.
The fair, jointly organised by the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) Nara Office and The Nanto Bank Ltd based in Nara City, will take place in Mercato Pavilion KL from Nov 17 to 26 and in TJ Health Food in Penang from Nov 20 to Dec 2.
“With growing health consciousness and increasing demand for palatable products due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Malaysia can be considered as one of the promising markets for Nara food manufacturers which specialise in offering high-quality food and beverage products made of natural ingredients,” the organisers said in a statement.
They noted that Malaysia has gross domestic product per capita exceeding US$10,000 (US$1=RM4.71) — the third highest in the Asean region after Singapore and Brunei — and its steady economic growth has resulted in an increase in the people’s purchasing power.
“In order to penetrate the Malaysian market and develop new sales channels, we will conduct public relations activities at this fair, including tasting and sales events by three food manufacturers based in Nara prefecture.
“This is to increase local consumers’ interest in the historical background and the skills of making exceptional quality food and beverage products, handed down from generation to generation,” the statement said.
Items to be displayed include noodles from Ikeri Co Ltd, seasoning products from Nishiki Soysauce Co Ltd and beverages from Yamato Honey Co Ltd.–Bernama
