Southampton have sacked manager Will Still after a poor start to the Championship season, with the club just above the relegation zone
SOUTHAMPTON have sacked manager Will Still after just 16 games in charge with the club languishing just outside the Championship relegation zone.
The 33-year-old was appointed in May after an impressive start to his coaching career in France with Reims and Lens.
However, he won only two of 13 league games at St. Mary’s and departs with Southampton just one place and three points above the relegation zone.
Southampton technical director Johannes Spors said Will is a great person who gave everything to try and improve performances and results.
Spors added that ultimately that process has taken longer than any of them would have liked.
He stated that by making a change now they believe it gives them the best chance of turning things around this season and climbing back up the league table.
Already angered by last season’s relegation from the Premier League, Southampton fans made their displeasure clear during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Preston.
