Part of Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim near Sungai Ara collapses; road closed as emergency works underway.

A portion of Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim near the Jalan Kenari junction in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas, collapsed this afternoon, prompting immediate emergency response from state authorities.

Penang executive councillor Zairil Khir Johari confirmed that his office was notified of the incident and a team from the state’s Public Works Department has been dispatched to the location to conduct emergency mitigation works.

“The public is advised to be careful and follow the instructions of the personnel on site,” Zairil stated in a Facebook post addressing the situation.

The affected stretch of road, located in front of KFC Desa Riang opposite SMK Sungai Ara, has been temporarily closed to traffic as a precautionary measure. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.

Emergency personnel are currently on-site implementing safety measures to protect road users and prevent further deterioration of the affected area.

Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz was present at the location of the cave-in, monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant authorities.

The Public Works Department team is working to assess the extent of the damage and determine the necessary repairs to restore the road to safe operating conditions.

Motorists and residents are advised to avoid the affected area and seek alternative routes. Those who must travel through Sungai Ara should follow detour signs and instructions from traffic personnel deployed at the scene.

Further updates on the timeline for repairs and road reopening are expected to be announced once assessment works are completed.
