PM Anwar Ibrahim’s G-Dragon signed album and light stick spark buying offers from fans on social media
PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent social media post has sent Malaysian K-pop fans into a frenzy after he shared receiving special gifts from South Korean superstar G-Dragon, with many flooding his comments section with purchase offers.
Anwar uploaded photos on his social media showcasing a signed G-Dragon album CD and an official light stick set he received after attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ dinner in South Korea recently.
“Forgot to share, the other day APEC leaders including myself received gifts from G-Dragon,” Anwar wrote in his post.
Within minutes of posting, the Prime Minister’s comment section was inundated with reactions from netizens, many jokingly offering to pay premium prices for the two exclusive items.
“PMX! How much to let go (sell) that light stick? I bid the highest price,” was among the common comments from G-Dragon fans.
One fan, Adinda, pleaded: “PMX, please tell me what’s the highest price? I’m willing to buy. I know PMX doesn’t even need those two items…please.”
Some fans tried their luck asking for more affordable prices, making reference to the government’s price control initiative.
“Greetings YAB PMX, can you sell both at harga rahmah (affordable price)?,” asked Facebook user Cvera Cvd.
Die-hard fans of the BigBang legend couldn’t hide their jealousy at seeing the Prime Minister receive such coveted items.
“We’ve been waiting for YEARS to get our hands on an original G-Dragon light stick given by him personally, and PMX gets it first!,” wrote Facebook user Anisaa.
“Which is the lucky (grandchild) to have it ?,”asked Sharon James.
G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, is a legendary South Korean rapper, singer-songwriter, and fashion icon.
He rose to fame as the leader of the iconic K-pop group BigBang and is considered one of the most influential figures in Korean pop culture.
The light stick, an official concert merchandise item used by fans during performances, has become a highly sought-after collector’s item, especially when personally given by the artist.
The enthusiastic response from Malaysian K-pop fans demonstrates the massive popularity of Korean entertainment culture in Malaysia and the value placed on authentic, signed merchandise from top-tier artists like G-Dragon.
As of now, the Prime Minister has not responded to any of the purchase offers, leaving fans to continue their playful bidding war in the comments section.
