Former Dewan Rakyat Speaker Art Harun to chair appeal panel reviewing Wan Saiful’s party expulsion
PETALING JAYA: Former Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun has been appointed to lead Bersatu’s Appeal Board Panel, where he will chair meetings to decide the fate of Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and several other division chiefs who were recently expelled from the party.
The appointment was announced by Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in a statement following a Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) meeting held yesterday.
“The MPT takes the party’s internal issues seriously and is committed to finding collective solutions guided by mutual respect, understanding, and firm adherence to the party’s Constitution.
The council remains determined to strengthen and expand the party’s struggle for a more dignified and prosperous Malaysia,” the statement read.
Present at the meeting were Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his deputy Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, who is rumoured to be enjoying strong grassroots support to eventually succeed Muhyiddin.
Azmin also named four other members of the Appeals Board including Datuk Seri Zulkifli Noordin, Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad, and Datuk Fahimee Ismail.
Bersatu is currently facing internal friction following dissatisfaction among leaders aligned with Hamzah, who have urged that he be given a greater role in the party. This includes Wan Saiful, who also heads the Bersatu Bangi division.
Wan Saiful and four other division chiefs — Mohd Azrudin Md Idris, Mohd Faizal Asmar, Mohd Fahdli Ismail, and Mohd Isa Mohd Saidi — were expelled on Oct 14.
They were summoned before the party’s Disciplinary Board on Oct 8, and disciplinary action was taken following what Bersatu described as a thorough investigation under Clause 9.1.4 and the Members’ Code of Ethics and Conduct.
The group had earlier been investigated for allegedly signing statutory declarations linked to moves aimed at ousting party president Muhyiddin.
Meanwhile, Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal was suspended from the party for one-term for charges related to party’s election last year.
