Trump calls Jewish supporters of Zohran Mamdani ‘stupid’

Donald Trump said Jewish voters supporting Zohran Mamdani are “stupid,” continuing his pattern of controversial remarks about Jewish American voting habits.

WASHINGTON: Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that any Jewish person voting for New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is a “stupid person.”

“Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

This marks his latest in a series of comments suggesting Jewish Americans vote against their own interests.

His social media post followed Monday remarks urging New Yorkers to support former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who trails Mamdani in polls.

Trump also threatened to withhold federal funds from New York City if Mamdani wins the Tuesday election.

Mamdani, who identifies as Muslim, has criticized Israel’s government but strongly denies accusations of antisemitism from Republican leaders.

Mamdani did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump and Republicans have long been unpopular among Jewish American voters.

A September 2024 Pew Research Center survey showed Trump trailing then-Democratic candidate Kamala Harris by approximately 32 percentage points among this demographic.

“If I don’t win this election – and the Jewish people would really have a lot to do with that if that happens because if 40%, I mean, 60% of the people are voting for the enemy – Israel, in my opinion, will cease to exist within two years,” Trump told an Israeli-American summit before his election last year. – Reuters
