Melaka Islamic Religious Department warns that only JAKIM’s halal certification is valid, cautioning against misleading ‘Muslim Choice’ labels.
MELAKA: Only the Malaysian Halal Certification (SPHM) issued by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) is officially recognised for use in Melaka.
The Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) has reinforced JAKIM’s position that labels such as ‘Muslim Choice’ introduced by other parties are not valid halal certifications.
JAIM director Datuk Md Azhan Samat @ Limat stated such actions can mislead the public about a product’s halal status and violate the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011.
He confirmed that any halal-related logos, symbols or terms issued by parties other than JAKIM, State Islamic Religious Councils or State Islamic Religious Departments are invalid.
“The use of such logos could undermine the integrity of the national halal certification system,” he said in a statement today.
He added that JAIM will take appropriate action against any parties involved in such practices.
The department advised the public to remain vigilant against fake halal logos or certificates issued by unauthorised parties.
Consumers should verify products using the official Malaysian halal logo issued by JAKIM or foreign halal logos recognised by the department.
Md Azhan said checks can be made via JAKIM’s official website at https://myehalal.halal.gov.my/portal-halal.
He urged the public to report any doubts about product or eatery halal status to JAIM.
Consumer vigilance not only protects families from prohibited elements but also supports the development of Melaka’s high-integrity halal industry. – Bernama
