Heads of departments urged to monitor staff financial health

KPPA directs heads of departments to monitor subordinates’ financial health to prevent excessive debt among civil servants.

MELAKA: Heads of federal and state departments have been instructed to closely monitor their subordinates’ financial health to prevent excessive indebtedness among civil servants.

Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said this reminder aims to prevent officers from accumulating unmanageable debt levels.

“All HODs must take this issue seriously,” he told reporters after opening the KPPA-meets-Melaka civil servants programme at Melaka International Trade Centre.

“We do not want civil servants burdened by large debts to the point that it affects their work focus and leads to serious financial distress.”

The directive follows recent arrests under Op Sky, the MACC’s investigation into corruption and money laundering involving a financial consultancy syndicate.

The syndicate allegedly offered financial advisory services to civil servants through social media and government agency roadshows.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan noted the government already has clear regulations governing civil servants’ borrowing practices that must be strictly followed.

He confirmed Op Sky cases have been handed to relevant authorities since the matter entered the courts. – Bernama
