Mobile network disruption in Sibu caused by power outage at Sri Aman telecom tower, with services restored within hours, says MCMC.
SIBU: A prolonged power outage at a main telecommunications tower in Sri Aman caused temporary mobile network disruption around Sibu town on November 1.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission confirmed the outage affected connectivity between towers across central to northern Sarawak regions.
Network services were restored in stages from 10 am to 5 pm on the same day, according to an MCMC statement.
The commission conducted network tests following public complaints and issues raised by Sibu MP Oscar Ling in Parliament.
Testing covered key locations including Jalan Pulau, Jalan Merdeka and the Sungai Bidut area.
Assessments showed mobile network performance in tested areas was good and stable with satisfactory download and upload speeds.
MCMC conducted 61 network audits in Sibu district this year, issuing 16 improvement notices to underperforming service providers.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining optimal communications service quality and reliability. – Bernama
