GISBH CEO and 21 others plead guilty to unlawful society membership

GISBH CEO Nasiruddin Mohd Ali and 21 others plead guilty to being members of an unlawful organisation at Shah Alam High Court proceedings.

KAJANG: GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nasiruddin Mohd Ali and 21 other individuals pleaded guilty to becoming members of an unlawful organisation.

The 66-year-old CEO was among 14 men and eight women who admitted to the alternative charge before Shah Alam High Court Judge Datuk Seri Latifah Mohd Tahar.

The proceedings were held at the Kajang Prison Complex today.

Other accused individuals include Nasiruddin’s wife Azura Md Yusof and Mohammad Adib At-Tamimi, the son of former Al-Arqam founder Ashaari Muhammad.

The court is currently hearing mitigation pleas from the defence and sentencing submissions from the prosecution before delivering judgment.

All accused were originally charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code for organized criminal group membership.

That charge carried a minimum five-year and maximum 20-year prison sentence upon conviction.

Following representation from the accused, the Attorney General’s Chambers offered the alternative charge under the Societies Act 1966.

The unlawful membership offence occurred at a premises in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang between October 2020 and September 11, 2024.

Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 provides for a maximum three-year imprisonment or RM5,000 fine or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Shafiq Hasim, Mohammad Fakhrurrazi, Ahmad Salim and Norinna Bahadun handled the prosecution.

Lawyer Datuk Rosli Kamaruddin represented all 22 accused individuals. – Bernama
