Amanah Perlis calls for abolishment of J-Kom

Amanah Perlis delegate Ya’akub Abu Seman has called for the dissolution of the Community Communications Department (J-Kom), claiming it has failed in its role.

SHAH ALAM: Amanah Perlis delegate Ya’akub Abu Seman has called for the dissolution of the Community Communications Department (J-Kom), claiming it has failed in its role to effectively inform the public about government programmes and initiatives.

Speaking during the debate on the president’s policy address at the Amanah National Convention, Ya’akub highlighted that despite substantial government initiatives and subsidies, many Malaysians remain unaware of them due to poor communication efforts.

“All the subsidies and assistance provided to farmers, often worth thousands of ringgit per hectare, are not being felt or appreciated by the intended beneficiaries.

The primary reason is the shortcomings in our media and the ministry’s information channels.”

Ya’akub added that J-Kom has further compounded the problem with its inability to convey policies to the grassroots.

“We have J-Kom, yet it has done nothing to communicate government policies effectively. I would suggest we abolish it altogether.”

J-Kom operates under the Communications Ministry and is currently headed by director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop, a former PKR senator.

The agency was established to enhance government outreach and ensure the public better understands its programmes and policies.

According to Ya’akub, the failure of J-Kom undermines these efforts, leaving citizens largely uninformed about government assistance and initiatives.

He stressed that for policies and subsidies to have the intended impact, proper communication mechanisms must be in place, otherwise the support simply does not reach those who need it most.
