Inter Milan top Serie A after Napoli stumble at Bologna

Inter Milan move top of Serie A after beating Lazio 2-0, capitalizing on Napoli’s 2-0 loss at Bologna as Roma briefly held the summit

MILAN: Inter Milan climbed to the Serie A summit after capitalizing on Napoli’s unexpected 2-0 defeat at Bologna on Sunday.

Lautaro Martínez gave Inter an early lead against Lazio after just three minutes.

Ange-Yoan Bonny doubled the advantage on the hour mark with a close-range finish.

Piotr Zielinski had a potential third goal disallowed following a VAR review.

Roma had briefly held top spot earlier on Sunday after their 2-0 victory over Udinese.

Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute after Hassane Kamara handled the ball.

Zeki Çelik secured the three points for Roma by converting Gianluca Mancini’s cut-back just after the hour.

Udinese pressured Roma’s goal late, but goalkeeper Mile Svilar made crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Napoli failed to reclaim the summit after their loss at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

Thijs Dallinga broke the deadlock for Bologna five minutes after halftime following Nicolò Cambiaghi’s cross.

Jhon Lucumí sealed the victory with a powerful header in the 66th minute.

Bologna’s win moved them to fifth, just one point behind fourth-placed Napoli.

In other Serie A matches, Sassuolo defeated Atalanta 3-0 while Genoa drew 2-2 with bottom club Fiorentina. – AFP
