Part of Jalan Bunus near Masjid India caves in outside jewellery shop, prompting road closure Nov 10
PETALING JAYA: Authorities have cordoned off a stretch of Jalan Bunus near the bustling Masjid India shopping district in the capital following a road cave-in that occurred this morning outside a jewellery outlet.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) confirmed the infrastructure incident took place earlier today in the busy commercial area.
“An incident of road collapse occurred along Jalan Bunus, Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur (in front of Bombay Jewellery) at about 8.39am,” DBKL stated in an official announcement.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have temporarily barricaded the affected thoroughfare to prevent vehicular access and ensure public safety.
“For safety reasons, Jalan Masjid India has been temporarily closed to vehicles from Lorong Masjid India 4 (beside the mosque) up to the affected area,” the statement added.
Multiple agencies have mobilised to the location to assess the situation and determine the cause of the subsidence. Personnel from DBKL, Air Selangor, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), and the Dang Wangi district police headquarters are currently conducting investigations at the site.
Technical assessments and monitoring operations remain in progress as authorities work to understand the extent of the damage and formulate remedial measures.
“DBKL emphasised that public safety is the top priority. Monitoring and technical work will continue, and further updates will be provided from time to time,” the city hall assured in its statement.
The incident has raised concerns about infrastructure stability in the densely populated commercial zone, which attracts both locals and tourists daily for its vibrant textile and jewellery shops.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and follow traffic diversions in the area until further notice.
